Mary Charteris in the Gucci Garden
The Italian luxury brand was awarded a silver medal at the famed RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2014 in London. The Chelsea Flower Show, which runs May 20 to May 24, is one of the social calendar's hottest events and this year, a
garden entry from Gucci, present at Chelsea for the first time, has taken home a silver medal prize. It was award-winning garden designer Sarah Eberle who brought the brand's 'Flora' pattern to life in a colorful new space at the show.
The Gucci Flora motif first debuted in 1966 as an homage to Princess Grace of Monaco. Commissioned by Rodolfo Gucci, the floral pattern by artist Vittorio Accornero was presented to Grace as a special silk scarf as a luxurious twist on a floral bouquet. Now the twist has come full circle, with real life plants and flowers inspired by the print.
"I am so excited to finally see Flora as a real garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show; it has been a truly magical project," said creative director Frida Giannini.
The brand has also created a limited edition line of Lady Lock handbags in the Flora print canvas. The bags are available at the Gucci store on London's Sloane Street, with the brand also hosting silk artisan workshops throughout the duration of the event.
