Feminine as ever, with a strict elegance
Bora Aksu commenced London Fashion Week on Friday morning with his Autumn/Winter 2013 collection. Originally from Turkey, Bora has been based in London for 15 years, where he set-up his label after
graduating from an MA at Central Saint Martins.
The London-based Turkish designer was inspired by Art Deco this season, so the 1920s ruled the runway.
This was evident in a range of rich luxury fabrics; silks, embroidered lace, leathers, suede and shearling skins. Beading and embellishment offered a more evening-wear focused aesthetic than we are used to seeing from the designer.
The dark romance of the colour pallet was arresting, cream and pastel grey punctuated with plummy purple, and tan nestled next to fuchsia pink. In terms of the silhouette loose, floaty shapes were pulled in to line with corset detailing. The look was topped-off with knitted metallic skull caps that lent a slightly eerie edge to the elegant look. Aksu's collection was feminine as always, but with a haunted quality that suggests the blossoming sophistication of his creative mind.
