Bank of Sudan’s governor Mohamed Kheir el-Zubeir
Abedalgoum Ashmeag – Khartoum
The Bank of Sudan’s governor Mohamed Kheir el-Zubeir announced plans to establish a bank specialized in financing small projects in the Darfur region.
Zubeir said in a statement after a meeting Wednesday
with the head of the Darfur region authority Dr. Tijani Sissi and head of region peace office Amin Hassan Omar "a final agreement will be reached after attaining permission from executive and legal authorities on the bank draft law”.
The draft law for the small project bank’s establishment set aside $100 million for investment in schemes and businesses in Darfur. The governor also called on international and regional financial institutions to contribute to this role, as the Sudanese state cannot raise the required amount to restore Darfur.
Former finance minister Sayed Ali Zaki said "reconstructing and reforming operations after the war, needs a strategy interested in adapting the citizen to cope again with the production cycle".
