Obama strongly supported the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt Cairo - Akram Ali Egyptian politicians have welcomed a US decision to resume aid donations amidst the current crisis affecting the country. Deputy Chairperson of the Egyptian Democratic Party, Farid Zahran, said the decision by US Congress reflected the opinion of the American people, and not that of US President Barack Obama who strongly supported the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and the Arab region. He told Arab Today that the US congress was right in its decision to oppose the president, adding that Egypt had alternative sources who had expressed an interest to help the country, including Russia who was trying to restore its influence in the Middle East. Leading member of the National Conference Party, Mohammed Abdel-Latif said the decision was to "expected" and praised a statement by the congress which described recent events as a revolution and not a military coup. He said the US will continue to be an important ally to Egypt, in maintaining peace in the Middle East.
