Sudanese tribe of Barmakids has its special and strict rules for drinking tea, as it is not accepted for them to drink tea, while you are standing or hasty or to put the mug of tea on the ground after drinking. The Sudanese tribe drafted laws forcing those people who drink tea to say verses of poetry to praise the tea during drinking it.
The tribe, living in the western side of the country, formed councils for drinking tea. They inherited these councils that became a major part of their habits of which they always express pride. The tea is considered the most preferred hot drinks in Sudan, as it is major part of the people’s lives so they are always keen to praise this drink.
Drinking tea has its ceremonies with Barmakids tribe, as the popular drink gathers all the members of the tribe from the different areas in a council. They view the hot drink as a symbol of their unity and cooperation between the members of the tribe.
Sudanese researcher Ayoub Al Malik said that the Barmakids council has its own system that could not be violated by the tribe’s members, stressing that they respect the tea as a symbol of their unification so the council always focuses on praising the hot drink during its meetings.
He added that the council has administrative role, saying that there are officers who are working to monitor any violations committed by the tribe’s members during the meeting. He added that the council sentences the violators through forcing them to pay fines.
