Louvre Abu Dhabi's third 'Talking Art Series'
Louvre Abu Dhabi's third ‘Talking Art Series' offers audiences a preview of the future museum's narrative and permanent collection through talks and workshops by world-renowned experts that concentrate on themes of cultural and artistic exchange.
Over the course of six months, from Oct. 22, 2013 to May 21, 2014
, a multitude of topics from cultural traditions, the shift of photography as an art, artistic dialogues beyond the east and west, to famous collections and calligraphy and architecture in Islamic art, will reveal more works and give additional context of Louvre Abu Dhabi's narrative.
Experts will highlight significant works from the collection namely, a sixth century shell limestone Greek Sphinx; ancient fragments of an epigraphic frieze (from the Muslim Indian Sultanates of the 12th century).
The collection also includes a painting by Laurent de La Hyrethat and an example of Picasso's creativity and experimental flair seen through his collage Portrait of a Lady.
Hissa Al Dhaheri, Louvre Abu Dhabi Programme Manager, TCA (Tourism and Cultural Authority) Abu Dhabi says, "It's important that Abu Dhabi's growing collection for Louvre Abu Dhabi is showcased in a variety of ways and the community have a chance to enjoy it prior to the museum's opening.”
Most recently the ‘Birth of a Museum' exhibition and its public programme of workshops and performances showcased 130 works from the Louvre Abu Dhabi collection, which was successful, and a testimony to our progress.
"Now the third ‘Louvre Abu Dhabi Talking Art Series' provides another opportunity to really investigate a variety of works and to bring to life their stories,” added Al Dhaheri.
The programme includes prominent speaker including WacinyLaredj, award winning author, Jean-Luc Martinez, President-Director of the Louvre, Sylvie Ramondan Art Historian and Director of the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon and Naman Ahuja, Associate Professor of Art and Architecture of Ancient India at Jawaharlal Nehru University.
