The Duet by Georges Braque
Fifty years after the death of French painter Georges Braque, post offices across France will sell a collector's sheet of stamps honouring the artist
. Two of Braque's most famous paintings are reproduced in rotogravure printing.
Born in 1882 in a suburb of Paris, Georges Braque left an indelible mark on 20th century painting through his works exemplifying the Cubist movement. A close friend of Pablo Picasso, Braque shared techniques and inspirations with the great Spanish artist.
Over one million prints of the new collector's sheet will be sold from September 30. The two Braque paintings chosen for the stamps are "Le Guéridon" and "Le salon peint." The "Carré d'Encre" shop in Paris will hold pre-release sales on September 27 and 28.
