Discussing the rewards and struggles of creating a museum, Culture Sector staff from the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority spoke on a panel this week at the American Alliance of Museums Conference in Atlanta.
The Forum, entitled "Advocacy in Global Museums: Empowering Local Communities", focused on how Emirati museum professionals view the social value of museums as essential to the preservation of the national identity, and how it critically relates to developing new audiences for a national museum in the UAE.
TCA Abu Dhabi's Culture Sector staff, Salama Al Shamsi, Project Manager of Zayed National Museum, Sharifa bin Horaiz, Arts Content Development Manager, and Moaza Matar, Exhibition Designer, shared stories of the best lessons they have learned in the museum field from their community. The discussion was moderated by Salwa Mikdadi, Associate Professor Practice of Art History at New York University, Abu Dhabi.
