President Saleh's seriously burnt face in June
The UN Security Council stressed the need to hold accountable all those responsible for acts of violence and human rights violations against peaceful demonstrators. The council reaffirmed its commitment to the territorial integrity
of Yemen and its unity, and urged all parties to renounce violence and implement all of the Security Council's resolution."
The statement issued by the council spoke of the need to ensure relief workers continue to work and address the growing crisis. In the statement read by Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, whose country holds the Security Council for the current month, Council members welcomed the progress achieved in the course of the political transition process in Yemen, on the initiative of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the implementation mechanism agreed between the parties.
They called on all parties Yemenis to renounce violence and abide by the timetable for the implementation of the transition process, as new members call for the implementation of the initiative and the mechanism in a transparent manner and in a timely manner in the spirit of reconciliation and inclusiveness, the UN envoy to Yemen Jamal bin Omar, said Wednesday that the agreement leads to early elections will not participate in President Saleh carried out gradually, and explained that he had no doubt that the early presidential elections, will be held on February 21, but warned that the situation in Yemen is still "very disturbed".
According to news agencies, Council spokesman Ben Omar was told by the Yemeni president, who agreed to the transfer of power last month to his deputy, he will need medical treatment abroad, which may require him to leave the war-torn country, "What I understood is that President Saleh still needs serious medical treatment out of Yemen,noting that efforts are continuing in order to reach the necessary arrangements.
President Salehwishes to travel for treatment outside Yemen, as President of the Republic, and not as an ordinary citizen. This was rejected by most countries that have been talks with him with the US rejecting out right his request.
Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch have demanded that he faces trial for his role in the quelling the peaceful protests this year.
Informed sources told "Arabstoday," asked the UN envoy Jamal Bin Omar, to mediate with some international parties, including America or a European country, with the guarantee he wouldn't be handed to an international tribunal should he travel.
Yemeni President Ali Saleh, who transferred most of his powers to his deputy, Abd Rabo Mansour Hadi, needs treatment to recover from injuries sustained in an explosion which took place last June which led him to leave the country for three months and seek medical treatment in Saudi Arabia.
