Tunisian security forces succeeded in killing the Algerian extremist Sufian Ben Abdelmajid al-Saqni, born on April 4, 1987, and was nicknamed "Abu Sufian al-Sufi" in the border area with Algeria.
According to sources, the Algerian extremist was in Afghanistan then he entered Libya to join the group of fighters to overthrow the regime of former leader Muammar Gaddafi. He then entered Tunisia and joined the extremist Uqba Bin Nafie battalion. He served as the organization's assistant emir in charge of planning and took the leadership of the group to succeed its former leader Luqman Abu Sakhr.
The Tunisian Interior Ministry published his photo among a number of other photos for the extremists who participated in the extremist attack that targeted French Bardo National Conference. Abu Sufyan al-Sufi was killed during a pre-emptive security operation carried out by the National Guard units on Sunday in Sidi Bouzid, where he was wounded during an exchange of fire.
He then detonated himself after attempting to arrest him after he was barricaded in a house whose owner called Imran Shalabi who was born on January 18, 1969, and works for a private company. The security authorities said that Shalabi is responsible for providing logistic support for the extremists.
During the security operation in the town of Sidi Bouzid, the security forces managed to arrest Shalabi with other five elements after an exchange of fire with the extremist elements inside his house.
The operation was carried out following the monitoring of phone calls between an extremist group holed up in the mountains of Shaanbi and a group of people living in a house in the city of Sidi Bouzid. After the siege of the house, the clash ended with the elimination of extremists, one of whom blew himself up after being hit.
