First Vice President, Ali Osman Taha
First Vice President, Ali Osman Taha, said that the Libyan Colonel Mummar Al-Gaddafi and the President of South Yemen, Ali Salem Al-Bayd are the first to establish the secession of Southern Sudan
from the north.
Taha said "The first weapons shipment obtained by the Popular Movement to liberate Sudan under its former leader, John Garang, was from Muammar Al-Gaddafi. And the second was one from the former president of South Yemen, Ali Salem Al-Bayd who ruled during the period from 1986 to 1990.
Taha commented during a press conference in Cairo last evening on the events of Maspero, where he expressed his sorrow, and stressed on Sudan’s solidarity with Egypt during this critical time. He said that Egypt will always remain the centre of the Arab world.Taha said that there are still malicious foreign attempts seek to disrupt the Arab world under the pretext of democracy and human rights. He said that the Arab world became weaker when Egypt’s role faded in the last decade. And he warned of the continued foreign attempts to intervene in the Arab world issues
Regarding the ‘Arab spring’ and the possibility of it moving to the Sudan, Taha said that any leadership has to expire and end, but some governments in the Arab world don’t want to believe so.
Taha stressed that Sudan appreciates the Egyptian revolution, and called on the political parties and forces in Egypt, not waste their efforts fighting over the constitution reform or the elections. Saying that these parties should unite in order to be able to face a external dangers threatening Egypt.
Taha said, "The Arab world is awaiting the outcome of the revolution, especially in the issues of security, stability and development, because the Arab world is always influenced by what is happening in Egypt."
Taha explained that his current visit to Egypt comes to open a dialogue with the political elite
saying that "Sudan is well aware of Egypt’s importance and its regional and international impact on the Arab world.”
