Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi stressed his country’s keenness to support the political stability in Lebanon, stressing that Egypt was one of the first countries that welcomed the political settlement in Lebanon away from the foreign interference.
He added, during his word after meeting with Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun in Heliopolis’ presidential palace, that Egypt will work with Lebanon to support its cultural diversity based on accordance and confront the attempts aiming to turn it into conflict.
Sisi pledged to resume cooperation between the two countries on economic level, saying that their talks extended to the recent developments witnessed in the region, including the Syrian crisis and the ways to combat terrorism in addition to the ways to confront the refugees’ crisis.
He added that they discussed the ways to overcome the current challenges facing the joint Arab action before the Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Jordan, expressing his readiness to provide support for Lebanon’s military forces.
On the other hand, Lebanese President Michel Aoun invited his Egyptian counterpart to visit Beirut as soon as possible, saying, “We came to Egypt not to improve the relations but to prove their historic nature, as they return to decades.”
He added that the meeting provided a good opportunity to discuss the ways to strengthen the bilateral relations on different levels to achieve the interests of the two countries during the coming period. He stressed the importance of Egypt’s role in the region, saying, “It is the country of moderation and openness. It can draft strategy to combat terrorism and to find political solutions for the crises hitting a number of Arab countries.”
