Nabil Shaath, the member of Fatah party’s central committee
Fatah efforts towards achieving the reconciliation is ongoing even though thu delegation was denied access to Gaza, on Friday, according to Nabil Shaath, the member of Fatah party’s central committee. He
called the incident “very Unfortunate,” because, “no Palestinian shall be required to have a visa to go from somewhere in his home country to another.”
In an interview with Arabs today, Shaath said, “we are constantly fighting to lift the Israeli siege imposed on Gaza," which aims at tearing the Palestinian territories apart by imposing a visa between the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
If Fatah, “acts in any way to effect the reconciliation negatively, it is going to be a real disaster,” Shaath pointed out. Therefore, the delegation of Fatah will travel to the Gaza Strip, again, the next day.
Shaath expressed his surprise of the incident. Fatah delegation has come “with good intentions, working for the purpose of reconciliation”. He pointed out that "a large part of the Palestinian people does not believe that there is reconciliation to start with.”
"How could Hamas ask a Palestinian leader to get a visa to go from the West Bank to Gaza Strip?” Shaath wondered, accusing some Palestinian parties of “not seeking the reconciliation. They fear it for their particular interests will be affected by it.”
An official Fatah presidential delegation was forbidden entry to the Gaza Strip at the Hamas controlled Beit Hanoun checkpoint, northern Gaza, Friday. The delegation that was asked by President Mahmoud Abbas to go to the Strip, returned to Ramallah, after waiting for more than 45 minutes by the checkpoint, having handed over their identity cards, but they were told they were not welcome, as confirmed by Fatah officials.
