Demonstrations in Tahrir Square
One day before the million man demonstration of “persistence” Friday, in Tahrir Square which has been called for by the 23 revolutionary movements and political parties, the Supreme Council of Armed Forces
(SCAF) will meet Thursday with the political parties to discuss the standards of the constituent assembly that will draft the constitution. This comes after a time limit of 48 hours, which was given to the political parties by SCAF.
The al-Wafd Party head, al-Sayed al-Badawi, had declared that the political powers had come to an agreement regarding the formation of the constituent assembly of 15 members from the judiciary bodies and constitutional law experts. The list includes nine representatives from religious institutions, five of which are from al-Azhar and four from the Church, in addition to three from the cabinet of ministers, army and police to represent the executive authority, as well as representatives from professional syndicates, which include 39 from parties and 21 public figures. Women, Copts and youth will also be considered.
This comes one day before the million man march that calls for the re-trial of Mubarak and the symbols of his regime before revolutionary civil courts, which activists say should be formed according to a law issued by the People’s Assembly.
Activists, called for the formation of a presidential council from several members that represent all the community categories “Leftist – Liberal – Muslim Brotherhood – Salafi – Coptic – Military” in a statement. They also called for the implementation of the political isolation law, stressing the need to form a coalition government from all political powers,“salvation government,” for a transitional period of six months, and to draft the constitution by a national group during this period, then to carry out presidential elections after the duties and powers of the president have been determined in the constitution.
