Yemeni President Saleh
Sana’a - Khalid Al-Heruggi
Saleh and leaders of the General People's Congress (GPC) party, are working very hard to thwart the political settlement, reached under an agreement the Gulf Initiative, and its Executive Mechanism, Yemeni
political sources told Arabs Today.
The sources explained that the thwart plan is of two parallel lines. The first line is provoking dispute with the Acting President, Abd-Rabo Mansour Hadi, who is authorized by the Gulf Initiative to exercise most powers of the President, especially regarding the relationship with the parliament and the government, the right to call for general elections, and restructuring army and security. The second line is to clash with the opposition, and accusing them of provoking the protests sweeping state institutions, and not fulfilling their obligations, regarding the law of judicial immunity for the President and his staff.
According to the sources, Saleh and a number of his party leaders doubt the loyalty of Hadi to Saleh and the GPC, because Hadi has refused interventions in the responsibilities granted to him by the settlement agreement. In addition, Hadi has refused to implement Saleh’s directives, as they often conflict with the provisions of the Gulf Initiative and its Executive Mechanism.
These directives include, rehiring military and civilian leaderships overthrew by protests. Sources reveal that Saleh insists on rehiring his son-in-law, Captain Abdul-khaleq Al-Qady as chairman of Yemenia Airway, although he was overthrown by protests three weeks ago.
The Acting President has threatened to leave the capital, Sana’a to Aden or somewhere outside Yemen, in the event of the continuing interventions in the powers granted to him. Media sources said that Hadi has told international mediators of the interventions aiming at disrupting the implementation of the Gulf Initiative.
The pro-revolution army has said of the meeting Saleh held with the so called Security Committee, another violation of the Initiative. In a press release, the leadership of the army stated that this Committee does not have any constitutional or legal presence at all, and Saleh is only using it to market himself. What is released by the Supreme Security Committee, according to the army statement, shows Saleh’s lack of commitment to the Initiative and its Executive Mechanism as well as the UN resolution 2014.
Revolution supporters have renewed their adherence to the Gulf Initiative, its Executive Mechanism and UN resolution 2014, and the absolute commitment to the texts of the three documents.
