Two Moroccan Islamist women in Rabat holding banners
Members of Morocco's ruling Islamist Justice and Development (PJD) party have reported recently receiving "pornographic content" in their e-mail inboxes, as well as advertisements for alcoholic products and
money-gambling games, leading party figure Ahmed al-Chukeiri said Sunday to Arabstoday.
Chukeiri said that he first thought he was the only one receiving the e-mails, before he received several complaints from other PJD members about the same.
"That means it is a general issue which we can't remain silent on," he said.
The PJD official urged the authorities to investigate the issue which he said "is aimed at insulting the Islamist concepts adopted by his party, especially after the PJD succeeded in leading the latest election in Morocco over the secular parties".
"Everybody knows that there are some of opponents of the PJD who are working on ruining the reputation of our party, after they had failed in defeating us through fair competition, but such conduct will only make us more solid and more popular among our people" Chukeiri added.
For his part, Omar Ihrechan, member of the politburo of the al-Adl wal Ihsan (the umbrella group of the PJD), stated that its members were also receiving similar e-mails. He said the acts were part of "the open war launched against us by the same fronts which used to fabricate porn videos for the group's members and upload them on YouTube."
