Palestinians will lack equipment and infrastructure to protect themselves from the bullets.
Jerusalem – Sona Adeek
As Israeli war drums threaten Iran, the Palestinians wonder if they're going to find themselves in the firing line. In the event of a war between Tel Aviv and Tehran, the Palestinians will lack equipment and
infrastructure to protect themselves from the bullets.
Political analyst Jihad Harb said to Arabstoday: "The Palestinians will be the victims of any possible war by Israel. Israel has resources for this war, and yet its media complains that there will be a lack of shelters for more than 300.000 Israelis. Palestinians won't have any shelter at all.
"We as Palestinians are powerless, the rockets that will go to Israel won't avoid Ramallah, like in the first Gulf war where Saddam bombed Israel and some of the missiles fell in Palestinian villages and killed several of them.”
A young Palestinian from the West Bank told Arabstoday: "I am against a war on Iran or on any country. I believe that a potential war would be directly linked with the Syrian events - if the regime falls, the war will be inevitable. I think that the US and Israel want to bring the regime down in Syria in order to physically divide Iran from Hezbollah."
West Bank resident Ziad Abu Zeina said to Arabstoday: “We are afraid of any war undertaken by Israel, we will be the first victims. Our losses will be much more than those which will inflict the Israeli. We do not own shelters or equipment. Even the Palestinian Civil Defense does not have the necessary equipment to help the population."
Another West Bank resident, Wissam Abdulhakim has a different point of view: “We fear nothing because life will remain difficult in Palestine anyway. We have experienced many conflicts caused by the occupation and even if we die, we will be considered as martyrs. If a war breaks out, we will not be the only losers: Iran, Israel and the neighbouring countries that will take part in the war will be at risk too. There’s no difference between life and death given the appalling conditions we live in.”
Political analyst Abdul Rahman al-Maghrbi said to Arabstoday: "The war on Iran is very close, and the Israeli government needs to attack first before Tehran acquires a nuclear bomb. I think that a war on Iran is only a Western plot in which Israel plays the initiator role.”
Palestinian officer of the civil defense Ahmed Salah said in an interview with Arabstoday: "We do not have enough and necessary capabilities to extinguish the fire. The event of war will lead to a real crisis. In order to obtain the needed equipments , we need an approval by the Israeli side. For instance, we are not allowed to have rescue aircraft and vehicles which access into our territory have particular specifications laid down by Israel.”
Rawaa Najar - another resident of the West bank, doesn’t expect any war against Iran as Israel has only threatened to strike the nuclear facilities in Iran over the recent years. She thought it was just an attempt to dissuade Iranians from making a nuclear bomb.
In the Gaza Strip, the results of the latest opinion poll revealed that 48.4% believe that Israel’s threats to attack Iran are real , while 32.9% felt that they are fake threats just to appease the Israeli people.
The results of the study showed that 70.1% believe that the United States will participate with "Israel" in a military strike on Iran, while 64.9% declined Arab countries to support Israel and America in their attack on Iran.
The poll, carried out on 23/08/2012, until 26/08/2012, and targeted university students in Gaza Strip through random samples that represented 130 samples, and the error was 2%.
72.1% supported the right of Iran to have a nuclear weapon, while 20.6 % opposed it. 74.2% felt that the Iranian nuclear reactor poses a real threat to Israel. 51.5% felt that Iranian nuclear reactor is a threat to the Gulf region.
