Moroccan king receives dignitaries
The meeting between the Moroccan Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane and the King Mohammed VI has been postponed for the second time, according to Moroccan sources on Thursday. The
meeting was scheduled for Tuesday then was postponed for the next day. The sources pointed out to Benkirane’s concerns about the Ministry of Interior, and the idea of appointing a non-party character like the former minister Idris Jatto.
The sources said Benkirane is expected to be called from now and then by the royal palace to hand over the list of ministers for his govermnet which was agreed by the Justice and Development Party, Istiqlal (Independence) Party, the Democratic and Social Movement, and Party of Progress and Socialism to the King Mohammed VI, for formal approval.
Idris Jatto’s name has been mentioned for this position, but the sources denied any connection between him and Benkirane since he has been appointed as Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Moroccan political circles are talking about the challenges that await Benkirane’s government and its advisory council, whose members have not been elected yet, and expected to be from the opposition. At the same time, there is no majority in the new government, which means in case the parliament votes in favor of a project with majority, it’s expected that most advisors will vote against this project, which will be a problem for Benkirane and his allies.
According to political analysts, the first problem to face the government will be the project of the Finance Act of 2012, which is expected to be rejected by the opposition.
It’s worth mentioning that, the advisory council in Morocco will be elected after the municipal elections on March.
