mass demonstrations in several Syrian cities
A source from the Syrian Obsevatory for Human Rights said that mass demonstrations in several Syrian cities began on Thursday evening, in which hundreds of thousands of protestors demanded
the overthrow of the regime.
He reported that there were the casualties of shootings in one neighbourhood in Damascus, and that more than 350 thousand demonstrated in Deir Al-Zourm, chanting "Bring down the system". He also revealed that the city of Hama witnessed the descent of thousands into Al-'Aasi square, shouting, "Down with the regime". Protests were also launched in several districts of the coastal city of Latakia condemning the Secretary of the Arab League’s visit to Syria, and calling for the fall of the regime.
The source indicated that a demonstration in Damascus was attended by more than 15 thousand demonstrators, and started out from several mosques in the neighbourhood of Qaboun. It also saw the chant "Down with the regime" being chanted, which was followed by a shooting that led to a number of people being wounded.
It is reported that Homs also witnessed demonstrations by tens of thousands in a number of neighbourhoods, and that the city was under heavy gunfire.
