In a speech commemorating the six ath nniversary of the 25 January Revolution on Wednesday, President Abdel Fatah al Sisi said it was a turning point in the Egyptian history in which “many youth sacrificed themselves” to renew noble values that were lost for years.
Sisi added that the revolution saw “some wrong turns”, as other entities tried to impose their personal agendas on it, to achieve their own interests.
He added that the “30 June revolution came to correct the path” of 25 January, allowing the people to “regain their destiny and freedom.”
The president honored the victims of the revolution, “who wanted progress for their homeland”, adding that Egyptian history will always remember and commemorate them.
The president also said that from 30 June to date “[Egypt was transformed from a ‘homeland for a group’ to ‘the homeland of the people.'”
He added that the Egyptian state is mobilising in all directions, such as establishing national development projects, attempting to resolve the energy crisis, and combating terrorism.
Sisi has hailed and honored policemen killed in recent years in a celebration marking Police Day, saying that Egypt is "fighting a vicious war and the whole world knows that it is fighting it alone."
Sisi said Egypt has been fighting a 40-month war by "men who took the responsibility to protect Egyptians," referring to policemen.
The president called on the Egyptians people to support the police and all state institutions. He warned that the war against the country aims to divide it, saying that there were attempts in 2011 to create a division between the police and army and between the people and the army.
Egypt has been battling a militant insurgency in North Sinai, which has killed hundreds of security forces in recent years. Attacks have reached further than Northern Sinai, and have also occurred in the capital city.
