Turkish army announced Friday that it killed 57 armed people loyal to Kurdistan workers' party and injured others during an airstrike targeting the party’s strongholds in Kurdistan two weeks ago. However, Turkish authorities arrested three Iraqis suspected of affiliating to ISIS.
According to a military statement from Turkey, The Turkish air forces carried out raids against the strongholds of Kurdistan workers' party in Mateen area on January 13 and 14. The airstrikes led to the killing of 57 armed persons from the party banned by the Turkish authorities.
It added that the airstrikes targeted the party’s headquarters, stores and hideouts, saying that they destroyed them and injured dozens of the party’s members. The statement has not mentioned whether the military operation had been conducted in coordination with the Iraqi side or not.
In the same context, security sources revealed that the Turkish authorities arrested three Iraqi brothers suspected of their loyalty to ISIS and transferred them to the security directorate. They added that the extremist brothers entered the Turkish territories short time ago coming from Mousl, clarifying that they are specialists in manufacture of explosives used in making car bombs.
On the other hand, leader of “We Are Coming Nineveh” operation Abdel Amir Yar-Allah said that Popular Mobilization Forces and Iraq’s air forces will lead the fight to liberate Talafar district and its surrounding areas, while the Iraqi army and federal police will work to liberate Mousl center and its neighboring areas.
He added, “After the major victory achieved to liberate Mousl’s left bank, Iraq’s anti-terrorism forces, Iraqi army, Federal Police and Nineveh police bear the responsibility to protect the liberated areas.” He demanded the Iraqi citizens to cooperate with the forces to keep stability in their areas.”
Meanwhile, ISIS published video footages for drones that it used against the Iraqi forces in Mousl, as a militant appeared in the video while he was pushing a drone to the air through the bank of the Tigris River
