Leader of Anbar military operation Mahmoud Al Falahy revealed the destruction and burning of a camp related to ISIS extremist group. He added that a force from the Iraqi army carried out inspection process in a number of areas of Iraqi city of Ramadi. Meanwhile, Arab and Economic Council launched its meeting to prepare for the coming Arab Summit scheduled to be held in the Jordanian capital of Amman on March 29.
According to Falahy, the Iraqi forces managed to destroy a camp for ISIS extremist group, saying that they set the fire on the camp after the escape of extremist militants. The military leader added that they managed to destroy two motorcycles and killed an extremist there, saying that they burned six camps with military equipment.
Military sources revealed that the extremist group turns to send its militants to the desert where it drafts the plans to target the security areas of Anbar.
In the same context, the security forces said that the Iraqi forces turned to withdraw from the surrounding area of Nuri Mosque due to the suicide bombings carried out by the militants, as they control the roads around it. They added that the extremist militias insist on keeping their control on the mosque because of its symbolism.
Spokesperson of Iraqi joint forces Yahia Al Zubedi revealed that it is a matter of time for the Iraqi troops to restore their control on the Nuri Mosque. He signaled that the extremist group uses the area’s high population to achieve gains on the military side, saying that they use the civilians as human shields. He stressed that such approach led to the delay of the advance of the Iraqi troops.
On the political side, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Wednesday held talks in Washington with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.
During the meeting held on the sidelines of a conference for the foreign ministers of the international coalition against ISIS, Ms. Mogherini hailed the advances made by the Iraqi forces to liberate the Iraqi territories from the terror organization.
She stressed the EU willingness to support Iraq in the field of dismantling mines, police training and restoring stability. She highlighted plans to send an EU team to determine the priorities of the Iraqi government to accelerate support.
An Iraqi high-level delegation topped by Mr. Abadi arrived in Washington on Monday on a state visit at an invitation from US President Donald Trump. Abadi's talks in Washington have covered joint efforts in the war on terrorism, cooperation at the security and military levels as well as means of boosting bilateral ties.
On the other hand, Iraq’s Ambassador to Cairo Habib Al Sadr said that the Iraqi delegation will participate actively in the Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Amman on March 29. He added that Iraq will urge the summit to issue recommendations to meet the aspirations of the Arab people.
