United Nations warned of serious dangers facing tens of thousands of Iraqi people due to the current military operations launched by the Iraqi troops to liberate Mousl from the grip of ISIS. Meanwhile, military leaders said that the battle has not started yet in indication to the phase after the arrival of the Iraqi troops to the residential districts in the western coast.
Deputy UN Secretary General Farhan Haq expressed his concern over the developments witnessed in the country, saying that food and fuel supplies to the western side of Mousl witnessed notable decline. He added that the markets and shops closed their doors, while the drinking water became rare.
He added, "About 800 thousand persons live under difficult circumstances due to the lack of supplies for over three months since the cut of the major road leading to Syria." He added that the UN agencies are working currently to assess the humanitarian repercussions of the military operations.
In the same context, U.S Secretary of Defense James Mattis arrived in Baghdad hours after the launch of military operations against ISIS to meet with the military leaders and governmental officials in Iraq.
According to sources, the American official was keen to raise the issues related to the phase after Mousl's liberation, as he stressed the need for returning the city's residents to their houses. Mattis expressed his fear one the role of Iranian militants to change the city's demographic structure.
On the political side, the Iraqi parliament is scheduled to discuss the recent developments witnessed in Mousl on Tuesday in the light of the launch of military operations there. It will also discuss the proposed amendments on High Electoral Commission law
