Egypt’s Observatory of Takfiri Fatwas, related to Azhar revealed that the number of ISIS fighters coming from Maghreb Countries merges between eight and eleven thousands after the increasing defeats from which the extremist group suffers during the current period in Iraq, Syrian and Libya. It added that these defeats pushed the extremists to find safe shelters in their original countries.
According to the report, Algeria is considered one of the major countries targeted by the extremists, saying that the serious challenge facing the Algerian government during the current period is to secure the eastern borders with Libya in the light of the current chaos witnessed in the country. The report added that Algeria faces serious threat, as the extremist militants received strong blows in Sirte and in other places.
The observatory praised the Algerian security forces for the efforts they exert during the current period to prevent the extremist elements from infiltrating to the Algerian territories, saying that the Algerian forces enjoy increasing experience in dealing with such groups. It added that it is difficult for ISIS to achieve their aspirations due to the efficiency of the Algerian troops in dealing with extremists.
It added that the group poses serious threat against Tunisia as the number of Tunisian fighters working with the extremist group witnessed notable increase during the recent period. It praised the efforts exerted by the Tunisian security forces to dissolve the terrorist cells related to ISIS.
The report coincided with another report issued by the United Nations as it warned the Algerian government over potential extremist attacks, saying that the foreign fighters working with ISIS pose serious threat against the country. It stressed that the infiltration of ISIS elements to the North African countries could lead to the formation of new terrorist groups.
