Each person can identify with the need of finding a purpose in life. For Raymond Leo Vincent, Jr. poetry became the avenue for which he chronicled his personal quest for meaning. The late musician and poet’s triumphs, struggles and journey unfold in the poetic anthology “What Made Him Sing”.
Vincent’s life, all of 39 years, was eventful. He was born during the Second World War, found and lost love, moved across states and built his niche in different music and literary scenes. He continually honed and expressed his gift as a poet and musician before his death in 1983.
“What Made Him Sing” is an amalgamation of Vincent’s experiences and insights, all of which were harvested from a life sown with passion and talent. Published and edited by Karen M. Vincent, the poet’s sister, the collection book follows his relentless pursuit of meaning, understanding and love. Each poem forms a portrait of the human spirit as it seeks to find purpose in the midst of life’s challenges.
Breathtaking in its range of subjects yet remaining always emotionally-accessible, “What Made Him Sing” lends a poignant glimpse into the heart and soul of a poet, musician and man.
