Egyptian American actor Rami Malek is set to play late singer Freddie Mercury in the biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” based on the band Queen.
With Bryan Singer directing the biopic, New Regency and Fox are going to co-produce the film with Graham King producing as well, reports variety.com.
Bryan Singer confirmed the news on his Instagram account with a photograph of the Queen band members and confirmed his and Malek’s involvement as well.
Anthony McCarten of “The Theory Of Everything” fame has penned the script.
King has been trying to get the project off the ground for sometime having originally set it up at Sony with Sacha Baron Cohen at one point set to star.
When Cohen dropped out, King began looking for a new director and frontman to star in the film.
Malek, 35, recently won the Best Actor Emmy for cyber series “Mr. Robot.”
