Zac Efron may join Dwayne Johnson on the beach in Baywatch.
The 27-year-old actor is reportedly in talks to portray a "young, rule-flouting hothead" lifeguard in the upcoming movie. The Hollywood Reporter reveals Efron will team up with Johnson's "by-the-book and very serious" character to fight an oil tycoon.
Johnson seemed to confirm Efron's casting Monday, tweeting, "BIG NEWS: Welcoming my dude @ZacEfron to #BAYWATCH. Our movie will be big, fun and RATED R.. Like me when I drink," and, "Me and bud @ZacEfron been talkin' bout this one for a long time. And someone get my baby oil."
Baywatch is based on the TV series of the same name, which had an 11-season run between 1989 and 2001. The show starred David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson and Erika Eleniak as Los Angeles County lifeguards, and inspired reunion movie Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding.
The film is directed by Horrible Bosses helmer Seth Gordon, with San Andreas producer Beau Flynn and Ghostbusters producer Ivan Reitman as co-producers. Flynn previously collaborated with Johnson on such projects as San Andreas and Hercules.
Efron last appeared in Neighbors with Seth Rogen, and is also scheduled for We Are Your Friends with Emily Ratajkowski and Dirty Grandpa with Robert De Niro. Johnson is slated to portray Black Adam in forthcoming DC Comics movie Shazam!.
