Fun. lead singer and breakout artist Nate Ruess stood atop Today's summer concert series stage Friday morning and told hosts that he's having the time of his life since going solo.
"Touring, being in a band -- and I've been in bands for 15 years -- is a lot of work," Ruess said in between sets. "Being alone is something I've just never had a chance to do."
"I'm having the time of my life, really," he said.
The 33-year-old sing-songwriter, who just the night before received the Hal David Starlight award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony, started his first set with "Nothing Without Love," from his album released this week, Grand Romantic.
After, he switched-it-up with a medley of his older songs "We Are Young" and "Just Give Me A Reason," the latter he wrote with singer P!nk.
"I think of myself as a songwriter above being an entertainer or vocalist or anything like that," Ruess said.
