Gal Gadot made her debut as Wonder Woman over the weekend.
The 29-year-old actress stars as the superheroine in her first official Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice photo. The character wields a sword against a dramatic backdrop in the picture, and sports a significantly modified costume. Director Zack Snyder tweeted the image at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday.
In the DC Comics universe, Wonder Woman is a warrior Amazon princess. She adopts the identity of nurse Diana Prince when she comes to the U.S., and begins working as a nurse in the army. As a superheroine, Wonder Woman possesses super strength and speed, and is able to fly in an invisible plane in some stories. She also uses several magical items, including the Lasso of Truth, a pair of indestructible bracelets and a razor-edged tiara that makes her invulnerable to telepathic attacks. She is usually depicted wearing a red and gold bustier with blue, star-spangled bottoms.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled for release May 6, 2016, and co-stars Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman. Amy Adams also appears as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.
