Damien Chazelle, the 32-year-old director of "La La Land", won the Best Director at the 89th Academy Awards here Sunday.
As a young director in Hollywood, this time Chazelle challenged an old-fashion way of music to tell a classic Hollywood story "La La Land", which was described by critics as "a love letter to Los Angeles".
This musical drama tells a love story of a jazz pianist with an aspiring actress in Los Angeles.
"I just want to first thank my fellow nominees, I was absolutely honored to be in your company this year," Chazelle said on the stage."Thank you for what incredible film makes you are, for inspire me with your work everyday."
In 2014, Chazelle received his first Oscar nomination for his second movie "Whiplash".
