Christina Hendricks says her Emmy nomination comes during an emotional week.
The 39-year-old actress has been nominated for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her work as Joan Holloway on Mad Men. Hendricks tells the LA Times the honor is appreciated but bittersweet because she and the cast just finished filming the final season.
"It's been an incredibly emotional week all around," she relates. "It's really nice to have this good news and celebration today after eight long years of hard work, just that we're still in the game."
"In the past, we've gone to the Emmys and know we can go back to work together soon, but this time it'll feel more like reunion," she continues. "So it feels super special that way."
The second half of Mad Men's seventh and final season doesn't air until spring, and Hendricks reveals she is "already missing" her castmates. She admits she "would have liked to see more of our cast nominated," especially Elisabeth Moss for her "exceptional work" as Peggy Olson.
"Obviously, I always want our cast," she shares. "We've been lucky to be nominated so many times, but none of the actors have actually won an Emmy ... But I'm biased, that's my team, my family."
When asked about Joan's hypothetical future beyond the show, Hendricks says she pictures the character as "gifted and talented at work and struggling to find someone to love." As for the actress herself, she will appear in Dark Places and A Book of Common Prayer later this year.
