Principal photography has begun in the United Kingdom on the latest installment in the Tarzan film franchise, Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures announced this week.
The 3D action-adventure movie stars Alexander Skarsgard as the iconic title character created by author Edgar Rice Burroughs in the early 20th century.
David Yates, who helmed the last four Harry Potter blockbusters, is directing the movie, which will feature Django Unchained co-stars Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz, as well as Margot Robbie, Djimon Hounsou and John Hurt.
"It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane at his side," a synopsis said. "Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom. But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash."
