Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will meet on Tuesday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who will arrive in Cairo to take part in the inauguration of the New Suez Canal.
Egypt will inaugurate the new waterway on Thursday, which will massively increase the capacity of the existing canal and offer an important opportunity to boost the country’s struggling economy.
During their meeting, the two sides will discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian territories as well as a number of topics placed on the agenda of a meeting of the Arab peace initiative committee at the Arab foreign ministers’ level on Wednesday.
They will also tackle the steps the Palestinian leadership plans to take in the coming period to end the Israeli occupation.
The committee meeting will be held upon Palestine’s request to probe Israel's recent escalations in Al Quds and its continued settlement activities.
