Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab inaugurated on Monday Assiut Power Plant after three units went operational yesterday.
Ministers of electricity, housing, health, youth and sports, solidarity, transport and irrigation along with Assiut Governor Yasser el Desouki attended the inauguration.
Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said Assiut power plant is the biggest power station in Upper Egypt with the cost of 776 million dollars and will be finalized over three stages.
Shaker assured citizens that there will be no power cut this summer.
He said the three units were operated Sunday and three more will be operated in June as part of the second phase.
Around 1,100 workers, mostly from Assiut, are operating in the project.
The last stage of the station, that cover an area of 1.3 million square meter, will be operated within the coming two months, Shaker said.
