Somali aid workers have thanked the UAE for extending much-needed relief during spells of drought.
Officials from the Somali National Drought Committee said the Somali people would never forget the UAE's humanitarian support through the provision of basic requirements and persistent efforts to ease suffering during the drought, which killed livestock and damaged crops.
They were speaking at a ceremony organised by the Khalifa bin Zayed Foundation to distribute 16,000 food baskets in four governorates in Somalia.
They appreciated the role played by other charitable organisations in the UAE in helping the Somali people. They said the UAE assistance came when people needed it the most.
A ship from the UAE had arrived at the Berbera Port carrying 1,700 tonnes of basic food items from rice, sugar, milk powder and water to flour, dates and edible oil.
