The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Dr. Abdullatif Al-Zayani met here on Wednesday with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
Dr. Al-Zayani Congratulated the UN Envoy on the new post and wished him success, affirming the GCC States' support for him in performing the tasks assigned by the United Nations.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the developments in Yemen and the efforts to push the peace process on the basis of the GCC political initiative on Yemen, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference and relevant UN Security Council resolutions including resolution 2216.
The meeting stressed the importance of holding Riyadh Conference on May 17, as well as intensifying efforts to deliver humanitarian relief assistance to the Yemeni people and the continuation of cooperation and coordination between the GCC and the United Nations to support a political solution and to promote security and stability in Yemen.
