Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held talks with Algerian Minister of Maghreb Affairs, the African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of the New Suez Canal on Thursday.
The Algerian news agency said on Friday that the two sides stressed the importance of applying a UN resolution on Libya and supporting negotiations aimed at forming a national unity government in the country.
They also pressed for imposing sanctions against parties seeking to scuttle peace negotiations as per the UN recommendations.
Clashes have been common in Libya since the ouster of former president Muaamar al Qaddafi following mass protests against his 42-year rule.
