The mask of king Tutankhamun will be transported to its permanent display case in the halls of the Egyptian Museum next Wednesday, after it was transformed into a laboratory specifically for the mask's restoration, said Antiquities Minister Mamdouh el Damaty.
In statements Wednesday, Damaty said that restoration work and all the necessary analytical work on the famed relic took eight weeks.
Damaty, meanwhile, said that he will hold a press conference next Wednesday at 6:00 pm to review all the details related to the mask and the progress made over the past period.
Earlier, the German government has offered Egypt a grant of €50,000 toward the restoration of Tutankhamun's golden mask.
In January, the Egyptian Museum acknowledged that in August 2014 its staff accidentally detached the mask's blue and gold beard while changing the display's light bulbs and hurriedly glued it back on with epoxy resin, damaging the artifact.
Tutankhamun died aged 19 in 1324 BC after just nine years on the throne. His final resting place was discovered by another British Egyptologist, Howard Carter, in 1922.
