A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Saturday urged the country's libraries to improve their cultural services in order to "build a learning-oriented society and Party." Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while attending a lecture on history and culture organized by the National Library of China (NLC) for ministerial-level officials. He expressed hope that the country's libraries, with the NLC taking the lead, will expand the scale of the cultural services they offer in order to promote a study-oriented atmosphere among the public and Party members. The national library has held monthly lectures on historical and cultural topics for ministerial-level officials for the last 10 years, which Li said has helped broaden the officials' knowledge and improved their capabilities.
