A new edition of the famed Koechel catalogue of works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is planned for 2013, the first in almost 50 years, the publishing house said Tuesday. "The most important change will be that the original KV (classification) numbers will be reinstated and the double numbering (KV and K) with parentheses will disappear," the German publishing house Breitkopf and Haertel told AFP. "The chronology follows the latest scientific research," it added. The catalogue, which is being reworked together with the Mozarteum foundation in Salzburg, was first published in 1862 by Ludwig von Koechel and remains the quintessential classification system for Mozart's works. The last edition, listing over 600 compositions, dates back to 1964.
