Egyptian Ambassador in Moscow Mohammed el Badry on Friday said that Egypt has participated with a high-level delegation from Al Azhar in the inauguration of the biggest mosque in Europe that was opened in Moscow.
Several heads of Islamic countries took part in the inauguration ceremony, a press release by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry quoted him as saying.
He added that the Egyptian delegation was led by head of the Islamic Research Academy Mohyeddin Afify.
The Egyptian delegation expounded efforts exerted by Al Azhar for spreading the moderate teachings of Islam, he added, noting that the delegates also voiced readiness to spread these Islamic principles in Russia and contribute to mechanisms for fighting religious extremism, he added.
The remarks by the ambassador were made at a reception he held in Moscow for the visiting delegates, according to the statement.
