A series of China-themed cultural events have kicked off in Bangkok, Thailand Friday, bringing locals a rare chance to experience China at their home.
At the opening ceremony of the events, formally known as "Experience China", traditional Chinese arts, such as paper cutting and embroidery, were presented at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
Zhou Shuying, a paper cutting craftswoman from Yuxian of north China's Hebei Province, brought her masterpiece themed with colorful and delicate patterns of Long (Chinese dragon) along with other works.
Organizers also presented a photo exhibition in the center, which tells stories of friendship between Thais and Chinese and even transnational marriage.
In the afternoon, a Chinese book fair was held which has attracted many local readers.
The fair was followed by a bilingual concert in the evening, in which singers of the two countries sang in both Chinese and Thai and won rounds of applause.
"Experience China" is a bridge for Thais and Chinese to know each other better, said Wang Shiming, vice chairman of the Chinese Association of Cultural Construction at the opening ceremony.
The events give our Thai friends a chance to feel the beauty of Chinese cultural as well as to know those stories in the history of China-Thailand friendship, said Ning Fukui, the Chinese ambassador to Thailand, adding that these events will boost exchange between the two peoples for sure.
Pokin Polakul, chairman of the Thai-Chinese Culture and Economy Association, recalled history to prove that the friendship between Thailand and China is a long-standing one.
The friendship between the two countries is invaluable and the two countries will have more cultural exchange in the future, he said.
"Experience China" in Thailand is jointly hosted by the State Council Information Office of China, Chinese embassy in Thailand and Thai-Chinese Friendship Association.
It be held in both Bangkok and Chiang Mai till September 28th.
