Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed Tayyeb and Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab checked on the restoration works at Al Azhar mosque that aims at developing the most prestigious institute of Sunni Islam without affecting its architectural style.
They were accompanied by Antiquities Minister Mamdouh Damaty, Cairo Governor Galal Saeed and Azhar Undersecretary Abbas Showman.
The first stage aims at restoring the facade of the mosque without affecting its Islamic architect, relocating the toilets and developing some parts inside the mosque.
The development works are carried out by Ben Laden Company which provided the funding.
Al Azhar was built during the reign of the Fatimid Caliph Al-Muizz Li Deen Allah Al-Fatemi in 972 for the newly established capital of Egypt, Al-Qahira
