‘1001 Titles’, a Knowledge without Borders, KwB, initiative, that aims to launch 1,001 first edition Arabic titles in 2016 and 2017, has reached 80 percent of its target.
The announcement was made on the sidelines of the 27th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair currently being held at ADNEC.
Since its inception in February 2016, 1001 Titles has enriched the local cultural sphere and opened new horizons for publishers, living up to its slogan, ‘Nurturing Talent to Enrich Content.’ "The impressive results that 1001 Titles initiative has achieved so far reflect the impact of the gracious support of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the KwB Organising Committee, which helped the project implement its planned strategies without delay. We are delighted to announce that we have reached 80 percent of the overall number of titles we are seeking to publish, with our goal standing at 1,001 Emirati titles published before the end of this year," said Majd Al Shehhi, Manager of 1001 Titles.
With a budget valued at AED 5 million, 1001 Titles funds participating publications completely or partially in alignment with the importance and quality of each title. The project also provides other benefits, such as exempting authors and publishers from International Standard Book Number, ISBN, fees and promoting the initiative’s titles through local, Arab and international book fairs and cultural festivals.
1001 Titles has recently launched a legal consultancy service for publishers in collaboration with ‘DEAIFIS Advocates and Legal Consultants’, aimed at providing UAE-based Emirati and Arab publishing houses with consultancy, support and a legal environment, to boost the publishing sector in the UAE.
