Waha Oil Company has warned that the fire, that broke out in five oil tanks, could be extended to 19 other tanks in their surroundings at Sedra harbor in Sirte City, central Libya.
A source at the company said the expansion of the fire could cause an environmental catastrophe as the 19 tanks, whose capacity are 6.2 million barrels, are full of oil.
On Thursday night, the fire broke out in five oil tanks in Sedra harbor, a matter which forced the Libyan government to ask for international help to control the fire which was caused by a missile shell that fell on the tank during clashes between Fagr Libya militants and the Libyan army.
