Austrian oil and gas company OMV said Monday gas deliveries have been arriving from Russia as usual, despite the Ukraine conflict and European Union (EU) sanctions against Russia.
“For months I have been receiving a daily report in the morning, where all the gas that should have arrived, has arrived” OMV CEO Gerhard Roiss said at a press conference, according to a newspaper report. He added he did not expect the EU sanctions to affect that aspect of business of his company.
Roiss also said he spoke to Russian gas giant Gazprom on Friday, where he said the state-owned company showed an intense focus on how it could continue to deliver gas to Europe under a wide variety of scenarios, and not how it could counter with sanctions of its own.
Additionally Roiss said he did not expect an increase in the price of gas due to having long-term contracts with Gazprom. Gas is currently in abundant supply, he said, leading to the current stock market prices being even lower than what is stipulated in the contracts.
He also said the OMV gas stocks are currently 84 percent full, and expected them to be 100 percent full by the end of September or beginning of October.
Regarding the South Stream gas pipeline Roiss said it would still take some time to be given the green light from Brussels.
