The Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) has taken delivery of a tanker with a capacity to carry petroleum products, named Kaifan.
The KOTC said in a statement, released on Thursday, that the Chief Executive Officer, Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, signed today the contract for receiving the tanker, produced by Hyundai Heavy Industry Shipyards at the Kuwaiti company headquarters in Kuwait.
The 186-m-long Kaifan has a cargo capacity of 47,000 tons and speed at 15.2 knots per hour.
By taking Kaifan, the KOTC now has a fleet of 27 tankers of various sizes and purposes.
Sheikh Talal added that following the first and second phases of upgrading the KOT fleet, as well as start of the third stage in 2012, the company has achieved its objectives, namely securing the crude and the derivatives' transportation and backing up the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation strategy till 2030.
The recently-acquired tankers are specially equipped to treat gas emissions and some materials, deemed harmful to the environment.
