World Bank officials said that they have re-appointed Jim Yong Kim as their president for a second 5-year term. His current term will expire in June next year. No other candidates have emerged during three-week nomination process, the bank said.
The 56 years medical doctor and anthropologist became the 12th President of the World Bank on July 1, 2012, before this post, he served as President of the famous US academic institution Dartmouth College. He has been grappling with a range of challenges, from poverty in developing countries to global warming. He said he looks forward to working with member countries to build a more inclusive world, free of poverty.
Established in 1944, the World Bank Group with headquarters in Washington, D.C, has today more than 10,000 employees in more than 120 offices worldwide. The bank aims to provides loans to developing countries around the world for capital programs.
