The World Bank invited Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Khaled Hanafi to explain the successful Egyptian experiment in the systems of bread and subsidized goods during the annual meeting of the bank in Washington in May.
This came during Hanafi's meeting with Gustavo de Marco, World Bank Program Leader for Social Protection, and social protection official in the bank Nahla Zeitoun.
Two research teams from the World Bank stood on the Egyptian experiment for six month in the systems of bread and subsidized goods.
The team observed that the new bread system put an end to the bread problem which has been a problem in Egypt for 50 years.
Also, the team noticed that there are scores of subsidized goods with high quality instead of three goods only in the old system. The citizen is free to select the goods and their quantities.
