The Financial Times reported on Wednesday that Mr Carney had been "informally approached to be a candidate", citing three sources involved in the selection process. Mr Carney is well respected internationally and also heads the Financial Stability Board, which includes all G20 nations and is tasked with introducing global financial reforms. That experience could prove invaluable at the Bank of England once it takes on additional regulatory powers from the FSA next year. The 47-year-old banker also has strong ties with the UK - he is married to an British woman, studied at Oxford University and livied in London for a time while working for Goldman Sachs. Bank of Canada spokesman Jeremy Harrison told Reuters: "The FT report that Governor Carney was approached as a potential candidate for the head of the Bank of England is not accurate." Mr Carney was appointed as the head of the Bank of Canada in 2007 and has two years of his term left to run.
